ΙΧΝΗ ΑΙΩΝΙΟΤΗΤΑΣ: ΘΟΔΩΡΟΣ ΑΓΓΕΛΟΠΟΥΛΟΣ (1935-2012) / ICHNI AIONIOTITAS: THODOROS ANGELOPOULOS (1935-2012) [in Greek]

Theo Angelopoulos was one of the most important filmmakers of European cinema. His films -multilayered, multifaceted, and deeply poetic- are at once aesthetic works and fields of reflection on memory, History, politics, and time. The present collective volume, the result of the activities of the Research Network on the cinema of Theo Angelopoulos, brings into dialogue scholars from different disciplines, collaborators and friends of the director, journalists, and artists.
The book includes studies on the relationship between Angelopoulos’s films and historical memory and collective self-representation, music, social anthropology, and the sciences more broadly, film history, and contemporary historiography, as well as discussions that record personal narratives of people who knew him. It is complemented by rich illustrative material, an index of his film criticism, and an extensive bibliographical catalogue. The contributions propose unconventional readings of a body of work that remains alive, provocative, and open to interpretation. The publication is addressed to readers interested in cinema, public history, collective memory, and contemporary culture.
